George Dearsley has more than thirty years journalistic experience, primarily in print media. After graduating from Oxford University he began his career in the North East of England and rose to Chief Reporter on the Northern Echo before joining the Daily Mail.George was on staff of four national newspapers, tabloid and broadsheet, for 11 years including a tenure as Northern Correspondent of the Sunday Times. He spent the next nine years freelancing for national newspapers and magazines and - for a year - was an on-screen reporter for Sky Television News. For six years he ran the Sun's northern night news desk. The BBC made a 45 minute 'Correspondent' documentary out of one of George's most harrowing investigations into the mysterious death of a young English girl and the subsequent application for political asylum in the UK of her Turkish boyfriend, the prime suspect. George also co-scripted a major, award-winning BBC television documentary on child slavery. In 1990 he also became involved in training and apart from being a director of Avanté George now lectures on communication skills to a number of universities, including running workshops in media training for students on the PR course at Manchester Metropolitan University. Twice in the past eighteen months he has lectured to Institute of Public Relations members at major seminars in London.
